Blanket ban on psychoactive substances
The drug MDAI is no longer a Class C controlled drug – yet it remains banned in the Isle of Man.
A specific law banning MDAI came into force following the death of Ramsey teenager Tanya Hughes in 2011.
From Sunday, however, it has fallen under a new blanket ban on psychoactive substances.
As a result, the maximum punishment for importing and supplying the drug will decrease from 14 to seven years' imprisonment.
