MHK says Steam Packet dispute puts Island's reputation at risk

Chris Thomas says the Steam Packet Company is breaching Agreement

An MHK says a dispute between the Steam Packet Company and the union Nautilus International needs to be settled through collective arbitration.

Chris Thomas says the Island's international image is at risk.

He thinks the situation is reminiscent of when P&O were in dispute with unions including Nautilus:

Mr Thomas has joined other MHKs and Nautilus in calling for Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson to intervene in the dispute.

He says it's a requirement of the Sea Services Agreement, that the Steam Packet Company enters into collective arbitration:

The Sea Services Agreement outlines the relationship between the government and the Steam Packet Company.

Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson says he has received the letter sent to him by Nautilus, and he hopes that "through active communication between the relevant parties an agreed solution can be achieved”.

Manx Radio has asked the Steam Packet Company for a response.
