Julie Edge questions whether the healthcare provider is 'building an empire'
An MHK says there are still concerns over how Manx Care is spending its money.
Onchan member Julie Edge has told Manx Radio services haven't improved despite the healthcare provider's funding increase in last year's Budget, and questions whether the organisation is 'building an empire'.
At this month's Tynwald sitting, Ms Edge asked whether there would be an independent forensic financial audit of Manx Care; Chief Minister Alfred Cannan said this step wasn't necessary:
In the 2024-25 financial year, Manx Care came in £15.6million over budget before receiving extra funds government.
Government's quarterly management accounts up to September 2025, published in December, show Manx Care forecasting a £9million overspend on its operational spending, with an additional £4.1million in cost pressures.
Ms Edge believes more needs to be done to understand how the funds are spent:
Manx Radio invited Manx Care and Treasury to respond.
