Major shift in policy should be discussed
An MHK wants the Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot to outline to the House of Keys the new structure of the Meat Plant, and an update on plans to rejuvenate the loss-making facility.
The scheme involves the injection of £1 million from DEFA's existing budget and Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper will ask Mr Boot to explain it to the chamber next Tuesday (13 Feb).
It was announced earlier this year that a new government-backed operating company had been established to reverse the fortunes of the plant, and to encourage farmers to use the facility.
Mr Hooper says this marks a major shift in policy, which needs to be discussed in parliament:
