Minimum wage goes up

The Island’s minimum wage has been increased by 20 pence per hour from today (Tues).

It now stands at £6.40 for adults aged 18 or over.

Economic Development Minister John Shimmin hopes it will provide an incentive to those who are able to work to seek employment.

The current minimum wage for adults over 21 in the UK is £6.31, with those between 18 and 20 paid a minimum of £5.20.
