New residents could move in by first quarter of new year
The treasury minister says he’s ‘hopeful’ that a project to develop the former nurses' home in Douglas will be brought in on time and on budget.
Treasury is the sole shareholder in the Manx Development Corporation which has been working to transform the site on Westmoreland Road into 37 apartments.
The building was originally constructed in 1953 and over the years provided temporary accommodation for hundreds of nurses working at Noble’s Hospital.
Politicians were offered a tour of the facility last week which it's believed has cost more than £11 million to construct - up £2 million on the initial forecasts.
In 2022 the Manx Development Corporation said the one and two-bedroom apartments would be destined for returning students and key workers and not sold to investors.
