"Minor structural issue" cause of Manxman cancellations

Issue said to now be resolved

Steam Packet sailings have resumed as normal today after technical issues saw cancellations yesterday.

Ahead of the 8am sailing, a "minor structural issue" was found in the area of the Manxman's bow thrusters which needed to be repaired.

The Company says, after discussions with its team, it was decided to cancel the daytime sailings to and from Heysham in order to give time for the issue to be fully investigated and resolved.

The Ben-my-Chree was readied to carry out last night's 8.15pm sailing to Heysham and the 2.15am return sailing on Sunday morning in case of need, but the Manxman was able to sail as normal.

However, SPC says there wasn't enough time to prepare the Ben for the daytime sailings.

Anyone affected is said to have been contacted by the reservations team.

The Company's apologised and has thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

Managing Director Brian Thomson says: "As always, safety is our number one priority. While we are very sorry for the disruption this has caused, it is absolutely right that the situation is fully investigated and resolved. I’d like to thank all of the crew, shoreside staff, our colleagues in DoI, Isle of Man Ship Registry and at Lloyd’s Register for assisting in resolving this promptly and effectively."
