Misadventure verdict recorded at TT rider inquest

Welsh rider died from neck and head injuries in June

A verdict of misadventure has been recorded at an inquest into the death of a TT rider.

Mark Purslow died from head and neck injuries in an incident at Ballagarey during practice week in June.

Witnesses described the 29-year-old approaching the corner at high speed on the racing line, before losing control of his bike and colliding with crash pads.

The inquest heard conditions on the day were good, but marshals had had to display the sun flag as sunset approached.

A police officer noted that the Welshman's helmet was fitted with a clear visor without a tint, but Coroner of Inquests James Brooks said he couldn't say with any certainty that the sun had played a role.

A vehicle examiner who inspected Purslow's bike after the crash found there were no mechanical defects that would have caused or contributed to the crash, and the machine was professionally prepared and fit for racing.

Delivering a verdict of misadventure, Mr Brooks said it takes only the briefest of moments for the risk associated with road racing to become real.
