More changes announced for Meat Plant

Formal transfer agreement imminent

More changes are expected imminently for the Island's Meat Plant.

Following the announcement in December that a new operator of the abattoir was to be appointed, it's been reported the formal transfer agreement into the new structure is close to completion.

The Tromode-based Meat Plant is currently operated by the Fatstock Marketing Association, but soon it will be transferred to a new private company owned by both the association and the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, called Isle of Man Meat Company Limited.

With its board of directors appointed, two senior management roles are to be recruited - a plant manager / director and a business development / commercial manager, and both roles are being advertised on-Island and in the UK.

The organisation has also agreed a new UK-based pricing matrix to suppliers, and has defined revised procurement arrangements to ensure the company's buying policy reflects consumer needs.

It's hoped the industry will be briefed about the changes in the next three weeks, with all moves fully implemented in the next four.
