More DHA buildings could be sold

The old Victoria Road Prison, Douglas

Minister says social worth will be considered

The cash-strapped Department of Home Affairs soon could have six buildings deemed surplus to requirements.

Minister Bill Malarkey has told Tynwald the former prison site, Lord Street police station in Douglas, and the former department headquarters at Homefield are no longer in use.

And the same scenario is imminent when Port Erin fire station, Castletown fire station and the town's police station become vacant, along with a number of police houses around the Island.

Yet the Minister has promised if placed on the market for sale, social value will be considered alongside their financial worth.
