National service of commemoration to mark WWI outbreak

A national service of commemoration will be held in the Isle of Man this afternoon (Sunday).

The service at St George's Church in Douglas at three o’clock will mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.

It will be broadcast in its entirety on Manx Radio at 11 0’clock this evening.

Official records show that more than a thousand Manx men were killed in the conflict, out of the 8,000 enlisted.

Chief Minister Allan Bell says it’s important to remember men and women who sacrificed so much to help shape the future of the nation.
