New Clerk of Tynwald

A new Clerk of Tynwald has been appointed, subject to the approval of the Court and the House of Keys.

Roger Phillips is currently a Deputy Principal Clerk in the House of Commons, where he has served in a wide variety of positions.

Mr Phillips is 52, speaks fluent French and German, and gives regular lectures on procedural and other matters relating to the British parliament.

Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan describes him as 'an extremely able and experienced Clerk'.

Mr Phillips is due to take up his new role on September 1st, with the full title of Secreatry of the House of Keys, Counsel to the Speaker and Clerk of Tynwald.

Malachy Cornwell-Kelly is retiring from the position in the Autumn, after seven years.
