Douglas man admits possessing cannabis
A court’s heard a Douglas man rushing to see his newborn daughter at Noble’s Hospital stopped on the way to buy drugs.
Forty-seven-year-old Darren James Foster of Mona Street appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He admitted possessing cannabis as well as driving while disqualified and having no insurance.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the court police saw Foster speeding in Derby Square just before 11am on 16 October.
They followed Foster, who drove through a stop sign before turning into a one way street in the wrong direction at speed.
But when they stopped him, he fled – throwing a £40 lump of cannabis into a nearby school and abandoning his partner’s 13-year-old daughter in the VW Golf.
The hearing was told he’d been banned from driving in 2009 but had never retaken his test and had a previous conviction for breaching the ban in 2018.
He was bailed in the sum of £500 and is due to appear in court for sentencing on 28 November.
