New herring quotas 'a real thing to celebrate', says DEFA Minister

Gives fishermen 'opportunities to diversify'

An updated Isle of Man herring quota that follows two years of constructive post-Brexit discussions has been described as 'a real thing to celebrate' by the DEFA Minister.

Under the new rules, fishermen will initially be allowed to land up to 100 tonnes of herring from July to the end of the year.

Before the EU Common Fisheries Policy introduced quotas in the 1980s, fisherman had been free to catch unlimited amounts of fish in Manx waters.
