Several new laws will be officially enshrined in the Manx statute books today.

Tynwald Day is the day on which all legislation to have received Royal Assent in the previous year is promulgated - in both English and Manx Gaelic.

A total of fourteen bills must undergo the critical process of promulgation today.

Among them are brand new measures to combat fraud and tackle abuses in the casino and gambling industries.

Protectors of the law will be given new powers under the Police Bill.

And those who write the law will, too, with a reform to the House of Keys giving MHKs the power to arrange a no confidence vote in the Chief Minister.

But by far, the most important bill to be promulgated this morning will be the Equality Act 2017 - marking the first blanket ban on discrimination in Manx history, on grounds of disability, age, sexuality, gender and race.
