New laws to improve unsightly buildings

First reading for Bill in Keys

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says he hopes new laws discussed by MHKs this morning will allow local authorities to clean up unsightly properties.

The Local Government and Building Control Amendment Bill 2016 is due to be given its first reading in the House of Keys today.

It will make it easier to take landowners to court if they refuse to improve dilapidated buildings and derelict land.

Mr Gawne says it’s a problem that’s long been a thorn in the side of Douglas Council in particular:
