New officers hand over cheque

A local charity has had its funds boosted by over £3,000, thanks to the efforts of 12 student police officers.

They covered the equivalent of cycling from Douglas to Scotland Yard in London, using bicycles on rollers, outside the Shoprite store in Market Street, Douglas.

They easily achieved their target of 350 miles, and went on to complete a distance of 500.

A cheque was handed over to Crossroads Caring for Carers at a recent graduation ceremony for the new recruits, who will take up positions with the neighbourhood policing teams in the New Year.

Another campaign, to recruit at least eight more student constables, will begin in January.
