John Hamilton says the local authority's wait list has got bigger
A new Onchan Commissioner says he wants to increase and 'improve' the local authority's social housing stock.
Lead member for housing John Hamilton hopes to have a 'complete' strategy in place and has confirmed the board is 'in discussion' with the government to acquire land.
The local authority has just over 400 properties, which he says are 'well kept' and wants to see that continued if new stock is built.
Mr Hamilton added that there are a number of people on the waiting list and it has increased since the cost of living crisis began.
He also confirmed that funding for the refurbishment of Springfield Court has been released, and phase one of the scheme will be started.
Mr Hamilton hopes to use his own personal experience with social housing to develop housing plans.
