New Years Day dippers prepare for bracing start to year

Hundreds prepare for dips around Island

Seasides across the Island will be hosting the New Years Day Dip from Tuesday (1 Jan) morning, for those looking to get off to a bracing start in 2019.

The annual event which sees the tradition of mixing swimsuits, hangovers and the Irish Sea as one revitalising plunge, draws hundreds of people to the beaches in an effort for some to raise money for local charities.

In the capital, Breast Cancer Now and Beach Buddies will be taking the dip at midday opposite the Queens hotel.

Both Peel and Laxey will also begin at 12am, with the latter taking donations for Manx Muscular Dystrophy charity.

Meanwhile the dip time in Ramsey is 11am hosted by the RNLI.

If you're feeling especially keen, there's a chance to join in with the Southern Dippers and their four dips for Mannin Sepsis.

They'll be starting early at Chapel Beach from 10am, then onto the Port St Mary Inner Harbour at 10.45am.

The dip at Gansey is 11.30am and 12.15am for Port Erin.

And the Castletown dip starts 9am.
