The Department of Education has said it will not be following the UK's lead and fining parents over truanting children.
The story that made the UK press yesterday told of new legislation introduced which will punish the parents of children who are treating their exclusion from education as a holiday.
Minister for Education, Anne Craine (pictured) says there are too many other considerations that would have to be taken into account when introducing a measure like this.
Mrs Craine does however concede that ultimately the parents are fully responsible for their child's actions:
