Douglas Borough Council's offer of allotments, on land at the new lawn cemetery off Johnny Watterson's Lane, has attracted considerable interest from local residents, keen to grow their own produce.
But they will have to wait until the Department of Transport has completed some road straightening work, and a potential car parking area, before discussions on the leasing of plots can begin.
Leisure Services Committee chairman Stephen Pitts says everybody is really keen to get to work, and he definitely wants to see the allotments in use before the end of the year (play attached audio file):
The next step will be the placing of advertisements in the local media, inviting people to apply for the allotments.
Councillor Pitts says priority will be given to Douglas residents.
