NSC main pool to re-open this weekend

The work was initially expected to take nine months

Final testing is taking place later this week

The main swimming pool at the NSC will be re-opened to the public this weekend, more than a year after it closed for refurbishment.

A number of setbacks have delayed completion of the extensive, multi-million pound work since it began on 4 August last year.

It was expected to take nine months to replace the moveable floor of the 25-metre competition pool and the two flume rides of the leisure pool.

Refurbished changing areas and the creation of a new zero-depth wet play area were also part of the £4.2 million scheme.

However, 'significant issues' with the design, manufacture and installation of the flumes pushed the completion date back.

Final testing is set to take place later this week with regular early bird swimmers and the Isle of Man swimming squad among those invited to try out the pool.

This has been the first significant refurbishment the facility has had in two decades.

Subject to any unforeseen circumstances, the NSC pool will be open to the public once again from 9am on Saturday.
