OAP banned from the roads after hitting pedestrian

Changed plea before trial started

A retired nurse from Onchan, who ran over a pedestrian after driving through a give way sign, has been banned from the roads for two years.

84-year-old Vivien Roma Proven, of Seacliffe View, appeared at Douglas courthouse.

She'd initially denied causing serious bodily harm, by driving without due care and consideration, but changed her plea to guilty a fortnight before her trial.

Proven had been driving to Port Jack, along Park Avenue West, on 1 January.

At around 11.30am CCTV caught the moment she hit the 84-year-old who was trying to cross the road.

The woman suffered two fractures to her pelvis, as well as a number of other injuries, and spent six weeks in hospital after the incident.

Proven told police the sun had shone in her eyes but denied driving too fast, or hitting the woman, telling officers she'd simply fallen over in the road.

As well receiving a driving ban she was fined £2,500 and ordered to pay £800 towards prosecution costs.
