Offer 'more than generous' - Downie

The reward being offered to a Peel man who found a hoard of Viking coins more than five years ago is 'very fair'.

That's according to Treasury member Alex Downie who will put a motion to Tynwald next week calling for £275,000 to be paid to Peel Man Andy Whewell.

He made the discovery in Glenfaba in March 2003 using a metal detector.

Mr Whewell says he will share the money he receives with the landowner, but claims the sum being offered falls short of the hoard's true worth.
