OFT issues safety warning about cots and TVs

Safety warnings have been issued by the Office of Fair Trading about a couple of products.

They're urging anyone who's bought them to contact the manufacturers.

Firstly, there's a problem with bolts on Mothercare swinging cribs and gliding cribs, bought between September last year and May this year.

The batch codes for the swinging cribs are NO289 and NO290 and the codes for the gliding cribs are NO291 and NO292.

They can be found on a label on the base of the cribs.

If you have one of the affected models, the OFT says you should stop using it immediately and get in touch with Mothercare, who'll replace the bolts free of charge.

There's also a fault with certain models of Sony Bravia LCD televisions bought since June 2007.

A limited number of them have problem with overheating, potentially causing the set to catch fire or the casing to melt.

The model numbers, which can be found on the back of the television set or from the settings menu on the remote control handset, are KDL - 40D3400, KDL – 40D3500, KDL – 40D3550, KDL – 40D3660, KDL – 40V3000, KDL – 40W3000, KDL – 40X3000 and KDL – 40X3500.

Anyone who owns one of the TV sets is advised to switch it off immediately if anything unusual is noticed (e.g. strange noise or smell, or smoke), unplug the power cable and contact Sony.
