It will see 'service users' carry out garden work and 'general tidying'

Onchan Commissioners is now working with the Isle of Man Prison and Probation Service to allow people doing community service to complete their unpaid work in the village.

Lead Member for Environmental Services David Quirk says the scheme is supported by officers, and individuals will be supervised by both authorities.

For those carrying out their community service, the work will be gardening focussed and include weed removal, grass cutting, hedge trimming and general tidying.

Mr Quirk says the scheme won't cost the ratepayers any money and hopes there won't be any 'negativity' around the project.

Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to him:

The local authority says it has 'requested' people with no fewer than 120 hours of service to be 'beneficial', and will carry out seven hours of work (one day) a week.
