Onchan man fined after threatening girlfriend's ex-partner

37-year-old sent offensive, indecent or menacing messages

An Onchan man has been fined £500 after threatening his girlfriend’s ex-partner.

Mark James Whipp, of Maple Avenue, sent the man offensive, indecent or menacing messages on 22 February.

At Douglas Courthouse the 37-year-old admitted the offence; the court heard he’d sent a Facebook message at 11am that day telling the complainant: “You’re getting cut.”

The man reported the incident at Police Headquarters and, whilst there, received a call and two further messages in which Whipp threatened to attend his property.

Whipp’s advocate told the court his client felt like the man had been ‘badmouthing’ him but added he was apologetic for his actions.

Fining Whipp, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, Magistrates told him: “No matter how aggrieved you are, you must not send messages of a threatening nature.”
