DEC launches fund to help 14 British charities
The One World Centre on the Isle of Man is appealing for volunteers to help fundraise for Turkey and Syria following earthquakes in the countries this week.
The charity is holding a street collection in Douglas this weekend.
The Isle of Man Government has pledged £200,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee which will help the millions of people affected.
Wendy Shimmin is the One World Centre co-ordinator.
She said: "Giving cash means that aid can be directed where it is needed quickly and efficiently.
"While the search and rescue operation continues other urgent priorities are medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heaters for spaces, winter kits with blankets and warm clothes, and ensuring people have food and clean water."
She spoke to Manx Radio:
Collectors will be in Tesco, in the town centre and at Douglas and Ramsey Shoprite stores on Sunday.
There will also be a collection in Port Erin next weekend (17-19 February).
Anyone who can volunteer in Peel and Ramsey on those dates is asked to contact the One World Centre on 310191.
