Only one MHK put forward for Legislative Council

Seven candidates will battle it out for the four available seats in Legislative Council later this month - but only one MHK has been nominated.

Sitting members Tony Wild and Juan Turner whose terms of office have reached an end, are both standing for re election.

Veteran MLC Eddie Lowey and David Callister who's served one term in LegCo are to retire, guaranteeing at least two new faces in Legislative Council.

The only Keys member put forward for elevation to the Council is West Douglas member Geoff Corkish was has been nominated by Rushen member Juan Watterson.

Contenders Linda Bowers-Kasch and Peter Hill stood in the 2011 general election as Liberal Vannin candidates and lost - both are nominated for LegCo roles by party leader Peter Karran.

Former Keys candidate in 2006 and current chairman of Ramsey Commissioners Nigel Malpass is backed by the chief minister Allan Bell.

Someone else who stood in that 2006 general election was newly-appointed Manx Electricity Board member Michael Coleman, in North Douglas.

He also serves on the Water and Sewerage Authority board, and is nominated by South Douglas MHK David Cretney.

The House of Keys will vote for the MLCs at a special sitting on Monday 18th March at 10am.
