Overseas aid 'significantly behind'

The Isle of Man has provided direct financial support to more than 4.3 million people around the world since 2008.

However, that’s still ‘significantly behind’ in terms of international aid contributions, according to the chairman of the overseas aid committee.

Figures released by the government show in terms of relative giving, the Island lags behind most European countries.

Since April this year we’ve contributed more than £3million to countries including East Africa, Kenya and Nepal.

But Phil Gawne says those figures are less than Jersey and Guernsey's offering.
