Parking permit charge 'unfair tax' claim

 

Plans for the introduction of a £25 charge for residents' parking permits in Douglas came under fire from dozens of local people at a public meeting last night.

The charge is among a package of measures which the Department of Infrastructure says are needed to meet reduced budgets.

The DoI is seeking £5m savings in the current financial year.

Last night's meeting at All Saints Church hall was addressed by West Douglas MHK Chris Thomas who has responsibility at DoI to implement.

Many of the 75 people who attended said the charge amounted to an unfair tax on Douglas residents - who as group, would be penalised because of where they live.
