Parliamentary trips a waste of money?

 

North Douglas MHK John Houghton says he’s outraged by parliamentary trips to other countries that have cost the taxpayer around £80,000 in the last three years.

 

In a question for written reply in the House of Keys this week, he quizzed Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan about off-Island travel with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

 

It emerged the trips to destinations ranging from Liverpool and Cardiff to the British Virgin Islands and New Zealand had cost taxpayers £78,000 since 2011 – although the CPA had contributed around £14,000 towards that total.

 

Mr Houghton says he can’t understand what the trips are for:
