Passenger cut free from car after accident

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious accident near the Rest and Be Thankful at lunchtime.

A section of the Ramsey coast road was closed for nearly four hours following a collision at 12.40pm when a dark BMW 3 series compact, travelling towards Ramsey, lost control and collided heavily with a gatepost and sod bank.

It prompted a full emergency services turnout and it took some time to free the front seat passenger from the vehicle.

Cutting equipment was used to remove the roof and part of the side of the car in what was described as a 'very intricate' operation.

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, along with the driver who was in a better state.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the way the car was being driven around that time.
