Peake hits the heights in by election

Business man Ralph Peake wins by election in North Douglas

North Douglas voters opted for businessman Ralph Peake, who emerged the winner with 604 votes.

He will enter the Keys without any political experience behind him.

A chartered manager and member of the Island's Chamber of Commerce, Mr Peake has pledged to use his business experience to help boost the Island's prospects across the board.

Mr Peake fought off a strong challenge from Douglas councillor David Ashford, who trailed by 50 votes.

Lib Van's Maire Booth was well behind, polling 223 votes.

Turnout was 39.7 per cent.

Mr Peake paid tribute to his opponents, saying a positive election campaign was an ideal spring board for his new career as a national politician.
