Petition demands Summerland site is not sold to developers

A petition demanding the Summerland site is not sold to developers will be handed over to the infrastructure minister David Cretney this morning (6 Nov).

Almost 2000 people from the Island, the UK and around the world have signed the petition launched by Glen Vine resident Tina Brennen, who witnessed the tragedy as a young woman.

It calls for a commemorative gardens to be created on the site, in memory of the 50 people who died and many others injured. 

Tina started her campaign after hearing the infrastructure minister's in talks with a potential developer, and a planning application could soon be on the way. 

She remains determined to stop bulldozers moving in - despite the opening this summer of a memorial nearby to mark the 40th anniversary of the Summerland tragedy:
