Planning application for Noah's Ark nursery

A Douglas couple have applied for a certificate of lawful use for a Laxey nursery that’s been running for 40 years.

Stephen and Paula Bridson of Woodbourne Road say they’re potential buyers of the Noah’s Ark Nursery on Shore Road.

The operation was founded 40 years ago and was the only pre-school facility in the village.

However, earlier this year the Salvation Army said it could no longer afford to run the business – leaving it under threat of closure.

In their application, Mr and Mrs Bridson say in the course of taking over the operation, they discovered the building hadn’t had planning permission to be a nursery – despite its long history.

In a supporting letter Yvonne Crawford, who managed Noah’s Ark for the last ten years on behalf of the Salvation Army, says she knows parents who attended themselves 30 years ago.

The application also has a number of letters from people whose children have used the nursery up to 30 years ago.

You can find out more about the application on the government’s website gov.im
