Plate injuries 'shocked' defendant

A 45-year-old woman who threw a plate at a man has been jailed for a total of 13 months.

Deborah Fargher, of Albert Street in Ramsey, admitted unlawfully wounding Owen Garvie, for which she was given ten months in prison.

But Deemster Doyle also activated a three-month sentence, which was imposed on the defendant last year.

The incident involving the plate happened on August 4 last year at the flat where the pair lived.

The prosecution said both had been drinking heavily and, following an argument, Fargher threw a plate of fruit salad which caught Mr Garvie on the forehead.

He received treatment in hospital for his injuries.

Fargher's advocate said she had not deliberately aimed the plate at Mr Garvie and was shocked at the injuries which it caused.

He claimed she was now making changes in her life and there was no doubt the pair would be back together again following her release from custody.

Deemster Doyle said the aggravating factors were her previous convictions, some of which involved Mr Garvie. He said it was clear she had an issue with violence and alcohol which had to be dealt with.

At the request of the probation service, Deemster Doyle extended the prison licence period to three years.
