Plush flushing in luxury loos!

State of the art public toilets costing a total of £80,000 have come on stream at the Market Hall in Douglas.

There are four semi-automatic cubicles, marked for male, female, unisex and disabled use.

Douglas Borough Council says they set new standards for public conveniences in the Island, with vandal resistant, easy-to-clean interiors, tiled walls and floors, stainless steel pans and wall mounted wash basins.

Flush and hand-wash systems are activated by infra-red sensors, and each cubicle has a baby-changing tray.

The disabled cubicle is accessed from the Market Hall lobby, and the other three from within the hall itself.

There is a charge of 20 pence, which the council believes is preferable to a reduced level of service at no cost.
