
A local policeman has become the first Manxman to reach the summit of Everest.
Sergeant Phil Drowley reached the top of the world at 5am Nepalese time.
It's his second attempt at conquering the world's most famous mountain. The first had to be called off after he became ill.
As well as fulfilling a long-held ambition, Sergeant Drowley has been raising money for Ronald McDonald House.
Speaking from South Col camp as he prepared to descend, he said he felt very proud and emotional to have achieved the feat and hopefully raise lots of money for a good cause (audio file attached):
