Police praise victims' courage

Police have praised those who helped bring a paedophile to justice.

Andrew James Maddrell, 24, from Douglas, a former nursery worker, was sent to prison yesterday (Monday) after admitting indecently assaulting a three-year-old child, and possessing more than 200 indecent images of children.

Maddrell was sentenced to four years and eight months for the former charge, and seven months for the latter, to run consecutively.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 20 years.

Detective Constable Nick Haxby has thanked the families involved in the investigation for their courage in reporting the matter, and for their continued support and understanding during the police's investigations.

He's also paid tribute to the work of Victim Support, the Public Protection Unit, scientific support and the Attorney General's Chambers.
