Police stunned as car drives onto TT course

One man in custody

Police say they were left in 'utter disbelief' during tonight's planned qualifying for the Festival of Motorcycling, after a car took to closed roads and drove along the course.

Marshals, who had reported the incident, were ignored by the man behind the wheel after instructing him to pull over.

He is then said to have done a u-turn heading against the flow of the course for half a mile, leaving stewards with no choice but to stand in the road and direct him off the course.

This evening's racing was cancelled due to poor weather, but officers say the potential consequences could have been 'catastrophic'.

A man is now understood to be in police custody.

Under the Road Races Act 2016, it is an offence to enter closed roads, obstruct racing and to fail to comply with marshals.
