People being asked to make PayPal payment over social media
Scammers are contacting Manx residents on social media asking them to make a PayPal payment.
The Isle of Man Constabulary is warning victims are receiving messages on Facebook which appears to be from a friend.
The message asks the recipient to accept a PayPal payment on the friend's behalf and then transfer it to a bank account.
However, the message is fake, and is sent to trick the victim into sending their own money.
Officers are advising anyone who receives such a message to contact the sender directly by phone to check the validity of the request, and not to make a payment.
