Port Erin care home will go ahead

Talks with developers to find way forward

The health minister says a new care home in Port Erin is 'progressing as planned' after GPs said they could not support it.

Southern Group Practice filed one of several formal objections to the proposed Spaldrick residential home in the village.

Doctors claimed they would be unable to guarantee medical care for the influx of up to 72 new elderly people.

They said rapid growth in the area meant more than a third of registered patients were now older residents.

But David Ashford says his department has begun talks between developers and healthcare professionals to find a suitable way forward.
