Port Erin Jazz Festival organiser hits out at road closures for rally event

Event to clash with Chris Kelly Rally on Friday evening

The organiser of this weekend's Port Erin Jazz Festival has hit out at plans to hold a rally event at the same time.

On Friday evening (2 October) several roads will be closed in the village as the Chris Kelly Rally stage gets underway between 5:30pm and 11:30pm.

Manx Radio understands the motorsport organisers have carried out their necessary obligations ahead of the event taking place, giving enough notice and gaining consent from the local authority.

But for Jerry Carter, who's hosting the Jazz Festival at the Erin Arts Centre, the timing is all wrong:

The road closures will be in place from 5:30pm until no later than 11:30pm.

It covers all of Mull Road down from its junction with the A31 Sound Road.

It comes down the Ballafurt Road to the promenade, Shore Road, before looping back up Strand Road to the bottom of Station Road - back along the promenade before going down along Church Road and Orchard Road before ending on Bridson Street.

As per the Jazz Festival, they say it's very much still going ahead and the Erin Arts centre can be accessed by the A7 Ballabeg Colby road and Bay View road but please allow extra time for parking.
