Port Erin rates to rise by 4.75%

Rate set at 331p for 2022-23 financial year

Rates in Port Erin will rise by 4.75% for the upcoming financial year.

Port Erin Commissioners has confirmed an increase to 331p from 316p for the 2022-23 financial calendar.

The authority says some costs are outside of the board's control but those which are under control have been 'reviewed and adjusted where possible and practical'.

Commissioners' Chair, Godfrey Egee, stated the current financial year has been affected by challenges caused by Covid-19 along with 'significant inflationary increases' across the Island.

He adds rising energy and food costs have also 'added to the squeeze' on the cost of living.

Elsewhere, the authority says work on the new commissioners depot at Breagle glen and glamping site at Ballafesson will start in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, it's also looking to offer a short-term lease on the Cosy Nook site whilst matters around the proposed redevelopment of the site are resolved.

The commissioners are also increasing their contributions to the Southern Civic Amenity Site by £13,687.

This, officials say, will allow for much need investment into the facility.
