Postal Cooperative seeks bid deadline extension

 

A meeting of the Ramsey Postal Cooperative to discuss mounting a bid to run the town's post office was very productive, according to one of the movement's leaders. 

Captain Nigel Malpass Chairman of Ramsey Commissioners is optimistic the group will be able to present a business plan to the Post Office board which is acceptable to everybody and reduces costs.

The Post Office announced in December it would close two loss-making Crown offices in Douglas and Ramsey and transfer services to nearby Spar stores.

The Ramsey group has been formed out of strong local opposition to the plan, which would see an end to post offices services in the refurbished Courthouse building.

Captain Malpass says the group's optimistic about its bid, but is hopeful members will be allowed an extension of the March 2 deadline to put it together:
