Potential extra costs for prom work

Signals for horse trams not in budget

An estimated £800,000 to £1 million for signals on the horse tramway on Douglas Promenade has not been factored in the £25 million budget for the redevelopment.

That's according to minutes from last month's strategic project board meeting.

It was suggested the horse tram service could be cut back to avoid the need for any signalling.

Under the original plans approved by Tynwald, the southern section will be on the seaward side and be used to a lesser extent.

The rest of the prom to the northern end will be double track down the centre of the carriageway.

The problem comes when the track crosses the road to be on the seaward side to the Sea Terminal from Esplanade Lane.

The minutes show no decision has yet been reached on the matter with a meeting being arranged to discuss the matter further with all options being considered.
