
Chief Minister Allan Bell has paid tribute to the government's Chief Financial Officer Mark Shimmin for the key role he's played in helping government weather recent economic storms.
Mr Shimmin will retire next April, 30 years after he started as a trainee accountant in Treasury.
Mr Shimmin helped steer the Manx government through a series of crises over the past decade, from inclusion on international 'blacklists' to the collapse of Kaupthing bank and the VAT upheavals.
Describing his contribution as 'absolutely pivotal', Mr Bell says his colleague's knowledge and experience make him virtually irreplaceable:
