Pregnant woman pleads guilty to drug possession

29-year-old tried to pay off £60 debt

A court's heard a pregnant woman from Douglas agreed to have drugs sent to her home to wipe out a debt.

Twenty-nine-year-old Katie Francis Jennifer O'Brien, of Demesne Road, appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

She pleaded guilty to possessing drugs, being concerned in their production, obstructing police, common assault and resisting police.

Prosecution advocate Paul Robinson told the hearing post office staff called police when they discovered a suspicious parcel addressed to O'Brien.

Inside were more than 2,000 tablets which O'Brien didn't have a prescription for.

She told police she hadn't ordered them but had agreed to receive them to pay off a £60 drug debt.

The court heard, in a separate incident, she'd struggled with police who turned up at her home following reports of a disturbance.

She'd also been spotted by witnesses slapping her ex-boyfriend, on Church Street in Douglas, and resisted police when they tried to arrest her.

She was ordered to do 120 hours community service and pay £300 in costs.
