Presence of electricity substation complicated warehouse fire

Firefighters had to wait for power to be isolated

Yesterday's fire on South Quay was complicated by the presence of an electricity sub-station. 

Emergency services were called out just before 2.30pm to the blaze at a property belonging to flooring firm, Chardaid Developments.

Concerns over toxic fumes from the fire and thick smoke led to the closure of the entire south quay for several time.

Station Officer David Cowley says it was a substantial fire which required the input of several different agencies in order ensure it could be safely dealt with . .
